Ready to fumigate

So Caden has been sick off and on since last Thursday. He seemed to recover okay on Friday. And he was acting normally all weekend. But I didn’t get to spend that much time watching him eat over the weekend since I was working. He often doesn’t eat all that well for dinner, depending on what we make to eat.

We had pizza Saturday, and it seemed he ate a good amount. Sunday night we had fish sticks, and he seemed to eat that alright too. Yesterday he ate breakfast, but had two bouts of diarrhea (sorry if that’s TMI!) before 8 am.

He then became pretty lethargic. I knew he was going to have to stay home from school again. I left him in my mom’s loving care, and headed to work. He apparently fell asleep in the car on the way to the bank, then had two more episodes of diarrhea during the day. He seemed to perk up a little bit last night, and actually ate some summer sausage for dinner. Why summer sausage, I don’t know, but I guess that’s what sounded good to him. Cheerios (with no milk) apparently sounded good to him too. He also was drinking water and orange Gatorade. We though he was back on the mend.

This morning, he got up, got his breakfast, and ate about 3/4 of his bowl of cereal. Then he went to snuggle with Andy for a bit. Andy asked if his heartrate was a little fast. (Andy’s training to become a first responder at work, and he’s much more aware of health matters!) I checked it and it was 120 beats per minute. At rest. A bit fast for a 4-year-old. I sat and snuggled with him. Then he started coughing. And coughing. Next thing I knew, he was throwing up again. UGH. Time for another quiet day at home.

I debated staying home, but knowing what my schedule was like, I knew I should at least go in for a little bit, then see about getting Caden an appointment with his doctor. Around 9:00, my mom called to say he was perking up, eating some toast, and drinking water. By noon, he was smiling, joking, and talking to the TV. He went down for an early nap, then came downstairs at 3:30 to go with my mom to the bus stop to get Noah. He had a good time outside in the fresh air.

He didn’t eat much for dinner again, despite the menu of scrambled eggs, sausage, and cinnamon toast, which is one of his favorite meals. He asked for summer sausage again tonight, so I gave him some of that. And he was playing normally this evening. I’m trying not to get too worked up. I’m hoping I can send him to school tomorrow. I’m planning on it!

Now on to the other reason for the fumigation desires. Noah brought home a note from school today informing us that a case of head lice was discovered in his classroom. YUCK! Noah’s not complaining of itching, and we couldn’t find anything on his head, so I think we’re okay. For now at least.

Between Caden’s never-ending stomach bug and this lice scare, I’m ready to put a big tent around the house and fumigate!
