February Mosaic

Here’s a mosaic of all of the shots I took for the month of February. 59 days down, 306 to go!

February Zoo Fun

Noah has Thursday and Friday off this week. This morning, the boys had dentist appointments. Both did wonderfully, and we found out Noah currently has SIX loose teeth! Two are quite obvious, but the other four not so much. I’m hoping once he loses the two top front teeth (the most loose), they start to come in before he starts losing the ones on either side of that!

After the dentist, we made our way to the zoo. It had been a few of months since we’d been there, and there’s plenty to do inside, so we bundled up and headed in. It was a beautifully sunny day, so the cold didn’t seem quite so cold. We had practically the whole place to ourselves! We didn’t see any other person in the monkey house, so we took our time watching the bonobos and orangutans, including baby Mahal (one of Caden’s “best friends”).

You Capture: Shapes

Photobucket

I didn’t want to go with anything too traditional when it came to shapes for Beth’s challenge this week. Of course, I waited until today to figure this out, so I was kind of limited in my options, seeing as I was volunteering at Noah’s school this morning, running Caden to the doctor this afternoon after some more bouts of gastrointestinal distress, holding him down while he screamed getting his blood drawn, waiting in the waiting room for the results of his blood tests, driving home in the snow (crazy snow we had today around here!), settling in at home only to leave shortly later to go grocery shopping that couldn’t get done earlier in the day due to our unexpected trip to the doctor, then coming home, putting groceries away, eating dinner, giving baths, reading books, talking to my brother for a quick tutorial on Adobe Lightroom… Oh my goodness, I’m getting tired recapping!

Anyway, here are some of my shots of shapes from today.

A favorite shape in this house is Mickey Mouse. I would love to live closer to be able to go to Disney every year-or more often!

We still have our homemade snowflakes up on our wall, and I really love this one that Caden made at school.

There is usually some piece of original artwork on our chalkboard in the office. This is a picture by Noah.

This isn’t the prettiest picture, but I like the circle, and I love this candle! It’s “Sun and Sand” by Yankee Candles, and it smells exactly like the beach in Destin, Florida. I so want to be back at that beach. I want to introduce my boys to the wonder of the white sand beaches of the Emerald Coast. For now, this candle will have to do.

This is just one example of the many shapes of cars we have around our house. I actually love this car. We found this at Disney World last year. They had cars all over the park that were shaped like different Disney characters. We also have a Darth Vader. It’s not just Star Wars, though! I got my brother a Sorcerer Mickey car.

I’ve captured this vase before, but I love it so much, and the shape is so lovely, I had to use it again.

Time to go see some more shapes at Beth’s!

Next week: HOPEFUL

Diptych #7::Violet

It’s a day late, but it’s Catheroo‘s fault for not getting me the code for her picture! 🙂

Speaking of her picture, for our final color of the rainbow, she used the purple collar of her new “baby”, Penny. (Side note: One of Catheroo’s cats is named Desmond. Anyone get the connection? You need to be a “Lost” fan!)

53/365 New addition to the household

Purple/violet is not a readily-found color around here. We’re Badgers, not Wildcats! Here’s what I came up with.

We’re not too sure what our theme is going to be next week. Any suggestions? Leave a comment!

Ready to fumigate

So Caden has been sick off and on since last Thursday. He seemed to recover okay on Friday. And he was acting normally all weekend. But I didn’t get to spend that much time watching him eat over the weekend since I was working. He often doesn’t eat all that well for dinner, depending on what we make to eat.

We had pizza Saturday, and it seemed he ate a good amount. Sunday night we had fish sticks, and he seemed to eat that alright too. Yesterday he ate breakfast, but had two bouts of diarrhea (sorry if that’s TMI!) before 8 am.

He then became pretty lethargic. I knew he was going to have to stay home from school again. I left him in my mom’s loving care, and headed to work. He apparently fell asleep in the car on the way to the bank, then had two more episodes of diarrhea during the day. He seemed to perk up a little bit last night, and actually ate some summer sausage for dinner. Why summer sausage, I don’t know, but I guess that’s what sounded good to him. Cheerios (with no milk) apparently sounded good to him too. He also was drinking water and orange Gatorade. We though he was back on the mend.

This morning, he got up, got his breakfast, and ate about 3/4 of his bowl of cereal. Then he went to snuggle with Andy for a bit. Andy asked if his heartrate was a little fast. (Andy’s training to become a first responder at work, and he’s much more aware of health matters!) I checked it and it was 120 beats per minute. At rest. A bit fast for a 4-year-old. I sat and snuggled with him. Then he started coughing. And coughing. Next thing I knew, he was throwing up again. UGH. Time for another quiet day at home.

I debated staying home, but knowing what my schedule was like, I knew I should at least go in for a little bit, then see about getting Caden an appointment with his doctor. Around 9:00, my mom called to say he was perking up, eating some toast, and drinking water. By noon, he was smiling, joking, and talking to the TV. He went down for an early nap, then came downstairs at 3:30 to go with my mom to the bus stop to get Noah. He had a good time outside in the fresh air.

He didn’t eat much for dinner again, despite the menu of scrambled eggs, sausage, and cinnamon toast, which is one of his favorite meals. He asked for summer sausage again tonight, so I gave him some of that. And he was playing normally this evening. I’m trying not to get too worked up. I’m hoping I can send him to school tomorrow. I’m planning on it!

Now on to the other reason for the fumigation desires. Noah brought home a note from school today informing us that a case of head lice was discovered in his classroom. YUCK! Noah’s not complaining of itching, and we couldn’t find anything on his head, so I think we’re okay. For now at least.

Between Caden’s never-ending stomach bug and this lice scare, I’m ready to put a big tent around the house and fumigate!

Another sick kid

It’s Caden’s turn this time. He seemed perfectly fine to me this morning. Got up, came downstairs, ate breakfast, ran around crazy with Noah upstairs, watched TV while I showered (yes, I let the TV babysit my kids, so sue me!), just having a chill out morning. My mom called to say she’s home sick with a stomach bug, trying not to throw up again. I asked if she needed anything from the store since Caden and I would be heading out for a couple of errands momentarily. She said no, and we hung up.

Not five minutes later, Caden starts coughing, then making that unmistakable noise of retching. He proceeded to throw up on the ottoman, chair, and carpet. Poor thing! I got everything cleaned up, then called Andy to fill him in on the excitement around here. He let me know that when Caden first sat down at the table for breakfast, he just sort of looked at Andy instead of diving into his cereal. But then he ate, so Andy didn’t think anything of it. Well, maybe we should have made something of it.

So here’s what we did this morning after we established he’s sick (between throwing up more):

Caden is sick-again

In the first three shots, he’s watching Diego or Backyardigans. He fell asleep on the chair at about 12:15. I took him upstairs to his bed, and he’s still sleeping at 2:30. Well, he woke twice to throw up, but goes back to sleep. I hope he feels better soon! I’m tired of getting stomach bugs around here!

You Capture: Kisses

Photobucket

It was a fitting theme over at You Capture this week. It was kisses. It’s a challenge to get a self-portrait of a kiss, but I have a couple. Not really my best effort, but I think they’re cute.

And I think I used this next one before for a reflection challenge, but I love it so much, I had to include it.

There’s a lot of kissing going on over at Beth’s page, so check it out!

There’s a reason they call it “Fat Tuesday”

47/365 There's a reason they call it "Fat Tuesday"

Yesterday, I indulged. I overindulged. I did more than overindulge. I stuffed myself. This is the second of two cupcakes I bought at work yesterday. I ate the other one in the car on the way home. I live 8 minutes away from work.

We had dinner at church last night. It was a chili cook-off and also a bake-off. I tasted all of the desserts. They were delicious. Especially the cherry crisp.

Starting today, no sweets for me. At least until Easter. Two co-workers of mine and I have decided to give up sweets for Lent. Heaven help me.

Diptych #6::Indigo

This was a tough one. What’s the difference between indigo and blue??? I took the easy way out.

46/365 Indigo

Turns out, so did Catheroo! Although she managed to find some actual indigo.

46/365 - Indigo

Next week: violet. Easy for Catheroo, as it’s her favorite color. I may have to dig in my dad’s closet, he being a Northwestern grad.

Wanna see the new color of my bathroom?

44/365 Wanna see the new color of my bathroom?

Yeah, it’s that bluish color that’s streaked through my hair. Let’s just say that it wasn’t so smart of me to lean that close to the wall when it was still wet. Why was I leaning that close to the wall with the top of my head, you ask? That would be so I could paint behind the toilet. Cool, huh?
