So as of February 17 of this year, we were supposed to be all digital for our TV signals. All of those people out there with TVs older than dirt were supposed to get one of those converters that they could get for like 10 cents with some voucher coupon thing.
Then Congress decided this was a crucially important problem that warranted legal action to postpone the transition because some people may not be able to watch TV because they were too lazy or too stupid to go out and do something about their ancient TVs. Seriously?! Since when did TV become such a necessity that Congress needed to push back the transition 4 MONTHS?
(Granted, I tend to feel TV is a necessity of sorts, but that’s beside the point because I’m ready for this analog to digital conversion.)
Anyway, I’m getting tired of the commercials telling us to go out to get the converter box, and the commercial with news people from each major local station telling us to go out to get the converter box, and the scroll at the bottom of the TV every so often telling us to go out to get the converter box. Enough already! If you don’t have the converter box yet, after being told about it months and months ago, too bad for you! Listen to the radio!
Today was the second gorgeous day in a row, and we’re due for two more. Too bad I have to work the next couple of days. But still, it’s feeling like spring! Here’s some extra proof that spring is on its way (5 more days!):

Fresh buds on my lilac bush!
The ground finally dried enough for Andy to get the ladder out to take down our snowman light post cover. Noah and Caden wanted to wear the hat:

People in the neighborhood were coming out of the woodwork. This always happens at this time of year. It’s the best!
I never like to wish time away. Of course, there are days that I want to pass as quickly as possible because there are things to be done that aren’t too pleasant. Like a colonoscopy, or really, the day before! Or the day I took my PT board exam. Or each of the two days my dad had major head/brain surgery for an acoustic neuroma.
But I really don’t like to wish longer times away. Wait, maybe the last few weeks of my pregnancy… Anyway, right now I’m sort of waiting for next week. We have plenty of fun stuff planned for this weekend: tonight a fish fry in Cottage Grove with Andy’s grandma, parents, sister, and the boys; tomorrow night, the boys are staying overnight at Andy’s parents’ house just ’cause (date night!); Sunday morning we’re hopefully meeting up with some friends who will be in town for the weekend.
But here are the things to look forward to for next week:
1. St. Patrick’s Day-not that we do anything particularly Irish. It’s fun to wear green, though!
2. Tuesday, one of the school districts we applied to for open enrollment will draw the names for kindergarten for next year. Most of you know how neurotic I’ve been for the past, oh, two years worrying about where the kids will go to school. I was told by the open enrollment coordinator from this school district that they would draw names on Tuesday and that I could call her after that to see if Noah got in. I’ll give her until Wednesday, then I’m calling! I’m not one to have a lot of luck-not that I’m unlucky, it’s just that I know many people who always seem to have things fall right into place every time. So I feel like it’s my turn! (Unfortunately it will probably still be about 3 weeks until we hear from the other school district-still neurotic!)
3. Wednesday is Mom’s Day at Noah’s school. They’ve been working for a couple of weeks on projects and songs for us. At least two days each week Noah has been telling me he can’t tell me what they did at school that day. I’m sure they’ve been working on pictures of us and answering their teacher’s questions about us. I’ll post that night about it. It’s always fun to read what they have to say!
4. SPRING!!! It’s one week until the official start of spring! In southeastern Wisconsin, that doesn’t mean the trees start budding and the flowers start blooming and the temperature is suddenly above 55 degrees, but it means we’ve survived another winter.
So I’ve got a couple of countdowns going on in my head. I’ll keep you posted.
Today was a gorgeous, COLD, sunny day here. On the way home from picking up Noah from school, my car said it was 17 degrees. UGH! It’s March 12!!! But it was incredibly sunny and at this time of year, the sun is much warmer than January, so you can fool yourself into thinking it’s really nice outside. So after the boys took their “nap” this afternoon, we headed outside. Despite the brown of the grass, plants, and trees, I still wanted to get some pictures. Enjoy!

After lunch and before naps, we played some Sound Bingo. Andy and I are too cheap to turn the heat up (and it’s March 12!!!), so we use blankets a lot in our house. The boys got creative while we were playing:

Last night, we had a lazy night at home. In fact, most of our nights are lazy around here! After dinner, Caden wanted to check out our candy drawer. He’s just getting to the height to be able to see into it…
…just about.
After the candy drawer raid, we started a Wii tournament. Andy and Noah started playing golf (I suck at it, so I passed).

Caden isn’t the best at the Wii, so he thought he’d work on some Sudoku puzzles:

After the Sudoku, he started on the newspaper crossword puzzle, then the cryptoquip, then the word jumble. He’s pretty talented!
The theme for You Capture this week was “texture.” I really struggled with this for a while. I think it’s partly because I’m feeling sort of uninspired. I feel like we’ve been waiting forever for spring, and it’s taking its sweet little time coming to my part of the world. Take, for example, the temperature right now-28 degrees. Enough already! I want 60’s! I want flowers! I want green grass!
But I digress. I finally came up with a few shots following the theme of texture:

This one is my favorite:

Can you tell I was hungry?
Did you play?

This morning, Noah came downstairs dressed (finally!) in green sweatpants, a red t-shirt with a football on front over a long-sleeved red shirt. I told him to change his pants.
“Why???”
“Because you look like Christmas! Put on some jeans.”
“But I want to save my jeans without holes for when we go out and about!” (Seriously!)
“Well, school is “out and about”, so go change!”
I guess I taught him that.
I am really uninspired tonight. It very well could be because I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night. It could also be because I keep reading other blogs and feel somewhat inadequate compared to them. Or maybe it’s because I haven’t taken any pictures for the past couple of days and I’m anxious to improve. I don’t know. I’m just not feeling it right now.
I’m sorry to bore you with my lackluster writing, but I have to post because I’ve signed up for NaBloPoMo again, and I’m determined to keep up!
Stay tuned. I may get better soon. Send suggestions if you want!
I’m just back from dinner with the girls at The Melting Pot and I’m just too tuckered out to write more. I’m still trying to adjust to the time change, which would explain why I changed my alarm to go off an hour later than originally planned this morning and I ignored the workout clothes laying on the counter in the bathroom. I needed my rest! Too bad I wanted to burn those extra calories before my dinner of cheese fondue with apples, bread, and veggies, followed by a salad drowning in dressing, which was followed by chocolate fondue with strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, brownies, cheesecake, pound cake, and Rice Krispie Treats! YUM!
This weekend has been tiring. Actually, just last night was tiring. And not just because of Daylight Savings Time.
Andy’s sister, who turned 30 on Thursday, had her birthday party last night at Mo’s Irish Pub. We met there around 7:45 for dinner, but didn’t order until 8:30. We had two long tables reserved for us, and there were many more people arriving to celebrate while we ate. I had a tasty veggie burger (I’m not a vegetarian but have found I enjoy veggie burgers) with a glass of wine. Yes, I was at an Irish bar with delicious Irish beers on tap, but I don’t particularly care for beers that are essentially a meal in a glass. Besides, I had to save room for the cake! And what a cake it was! I had some prior knowledge as to what to expect, and I was not disappointed. First off, it was decorated as a Tiffany jewelry box. The color was spot on. And under that beautiful blue frosting was a delicious, decadent cake. The bottom layer was white cake, then a layer of strawberry (or raspberry) with buttercream, cheesecake, then another layer of strawberry/raspberry with buttercream, then chocolate cake. Yummy! I had a very large piece, and I’m looking forward to one more piece tomorrow night (which I’ve begged Lizzy for!).
Not too long after we finished eating, the live music started. No, it wasn’t specially ordered for Lizzy, but a great coincidence. The band is called Fat Bottom Special and they’re a great classic rock band. They started singing an AC/DC song and I thought the restaurant was still playing their canned music. I always enjoy some classic rock.
A lot of people turned out to celebrate Lizzy’s momentous milestone, so there were plenty of people to visit with. All of Andy’s aunts and uncles from his dad’s side came, except for one that lives in Michigan, and numerous cousins also came to have a drink or two. So hanging out in the bar, listening to the band, doing a shot (or three!), and catching up with blasts from the past helped to pass the time. Suddenly, it was 1:00 am (and Andy’s parents were still there!) and I hit my wall. Not to mention that in about an hour from then it would actually be another hour later! We finally left around 1:30, and there were still several people partying it up!
Luckily, my dear parents kept the boys overnight and agreed to take them to church this morning, so we were able to sleep until 9:15 (sort of like 8:15, though). I forced myself onto the treadmill, did some laundry, managed to pull a muscle below my right blade (which is still killing me!), and then the boys showed up around noon. At that point, my mom reminded me of a concert at church this afternoon at 4:00. She said Noah was interested in going, and I said I’d decide later if I felt up to taking him. After lunch and some playing, it was time for naps. Also for me! I love napping on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon. It’s how I spent many a Sunday in college and before kids!
Around 3:00, I got my lazy butt off the sofa and went to wake Noah up for the concert. He stayed in bed while I got myself ready, and when I went back in his room, he was asleep again! I got him up, tried to motivate myself to go, then off we went to the concert.
It was worth it! The Pike Creek Bluegrass Band played for about an hour, and they were very entertaining! Noah really enjoyed it, too. There were 5 members of the band: a guy playing banjo and singing, a guy playing the mandolin and the guitar (not simultaneously!) and singing, a woman playing the fiddle/violin, a guy playing the guitar and mandolin (also, not simultaneously!) and singing, and a guy playing the bass guitar (we’ve seen him play an upright bass, but he’s nursing a bum foot now) and singing. They were very talented, and the music was terrific. I’m really glad we went.
Now, I’m laying on the sofa, blogging, having eaten a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, just finished with The Amazing Race, and now catching up on 30 Rock with Andy. We’ll see how long I can stay awake! Not a bad weekend!
Sorry for the lack of pictures! I had my point-and-shoot with me at Lizzy’s birthday party, but I never took it out of my purse! Andy’s mom had her camera and we took plenty of pictures with it. I’ll try to get my hands on some of those pictures!
Is it just me, or does showing a commercial for the Snuggie during The Shining take a little bit away from the intensity of the movie?
Okay not really, I’ve just discovered! This movie still scares the crap out of me!
