Ugh

I hit my wall tonight. I’m battling yet another cold (it feels like I’ve been sick for more than a month) and I’m exhausted. I was sitting looking at a Target catalog with Caden and I started falling asleep! I’m barely keeping my eyes open right now. That’s all I have to say. Good night!

Caden

Caden has a way of personifying any inanimate object. His Big Blue Blankie always wants hugs and kisses. Caden calls “him” his “best big blue blankie in the whole world!” He says his cars are his friends.

Tonight, he had collected 5 cars and lined them up in a row. I was taking pictures of Noah for a photo class and Caden wanted to be in the picture too. I had him sit off to the side by his cars and got ready to take his picture. He said, “Smile cars!” He then let me know that they had smiled.

Unbelievable

***Disclaimer***There is a questionable photo in one of the posts to which I have a link, so you may want to shield your computer screen from your kids!***

This past week, we elected our first African-American president. As everyone has been saying, it’s a great way to show our kids that they can be anything they want to be, and do whatever they want to do. No matter what.

Unfortunately, in California, a “majority” of voters decided to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage by passing Proposition 8, or “Prop ‘Hate'” as it’s being called in some circles. This “majority” has decided to tell the homosexual community that they can’t do whatever they want to do. Even though I don’t live in California, I worry that this may be the start of something. Something that may reach across the country.

Since I’m not as eloquent as other bloggers out there, I’m going to refer you to my sister-in-law’s blog and to her friend Jenni’s blog. Catheroo says it better than I ever could. Jenni says it in another way, and just as well. I’ll also let their pictures take the place of my picture of the day.

It’s that time again

I don’t know how many of you know this about my husband, but he LOVES Christmas. No, really. It’s his favorite time of the year. It’s nice to not live with a Scrooge, but sometimes it’s a bit much. My biggest complaint is his love of Christmas music. It has its place and time, but for me, it can start a little too early. This year, it started around noon on October 31. Yep, we hadn’t even gone trick-or-treating in my parents’ neighborhood, and the Christmas music was on the radio. There are currently 2 stations on Milwaukee radio that are playing Christmas music 24/7, with another to follow soon. Today was the first day I allowed it to be played in my presence. We had our digital cable music channel on “Sounds of the Season.” It’s on right now. The Carpenters’ “Merry Christmas Baby”- the quintessential Christmas song.

We were at the mall this morning and the Christmas decorations are up in most stores. They’re in the midst of getting the middle area ready for Santa. I imagine he’ll be there by next weekend. I bought my first Christmas present today. I suppose it’s time.

Noah at 5 years old

Noah had his 5-year check-up yesterday. I always like to see how he’s doing on the growth chart. He is 44.5 inches tall, which is the 81st percentile. He’s 43.6 pounds, which is the 70th percentile. They also calculate his BMI which is 52%. I was pretty shocked and concerned when I saw that number, because that’s considered obese for adults! There’s no way Noah is obese! He can’t keep his pants up many days! The doctor said 85% is considered obese for kids. Whew!

Tonight we spent a lot of time building a Lego castle. We have a long way to go before it’s done. I’ve never played with Legos like this before! My brother played with them a lot as a kid, but I don’t remember spending time with him studying the pictorial instructions on how to build stuff. It’s kind of fun, but somewhat frustrating as you dig through all the minuscule pieces to find that one piece you need! Here are some pictures of how we spent our Friday night, and probably how we’ll spend many more!

Not much to say

I’m ready to go to bed, so I’ll just post a couple of pictures. Noah took these a few weeks ago with our point-and-shoot camera. He has his own kiddie camera, but he likes to try the grown-up camera. Not too bad!

Only in Wisconsin…

…can it be 72 degrees on November 5, one degree short of the record, only to be expecting, based on the forecast, 40 degrees for a high and snow by November 8. It really sucks when you know that today is the last nice day we’ll probably see until April or May! But we’ve enjoyed it! I’m blogging outside right now (woot for laptops!) to soak up the last rays of the sun (at 4:15 in the afternoon!) and feel the coolness start to creep in with the breeze. I’m sounding morbid, but I’m feeling a bit melancholy right now. Is it spring yet?

Crazy injury

This afternoon, I went to my parents’ house to pick up the boys after my day at work. As I said in my last post, there are a ton of kids on my parents’ court, so the boys love Monday afternoons. As I pulled into the court, I was almost hit head-on by a Barbie Power Wheels car driven by one of the girls on the court, Hallie, with another girl, Emily, in the passenger seat. Caden, Noah, and yet another girl, Hannah, were chasing the car. It seemed like the kids were having a blast. Never mind that Hallie was a terrible driver! She didn’t have much control over her gas pedal!

After a while, Hannah got into the driver’s seat, with Emily still as a passenger. Noah and Caden were still having fun chasing them. Suddenly I looked over, and saw Caden being dragged by the car, Hannah blissfully unaware of the chaos behind her. The radio was on and the car is pretty loud, but still, Caden was screaming! Hannah’s mom and I started yelling for her to stop. After what felt like an eternity, Hannah stopped and I got over to Caden. He was crying, but seemed more scared than hurt. I looked at his legs and saw the holes in the knees of his sweatpants. I pointed them out to him, and he started laughing! No harm, no foul, I guess! We rounded up the kids and headed to our respective homes, and I piled the boys into the car to head home.

We got home and I figured I should take a look at Caden’s knees. He had a pretty good scrape/road rash on his left knee! You never would have guessed based on his reactions! He’s a pretty tough little guy. We got him cleaned up, put a Diego Band-Aid on, and we’re good to go! I’m going to keep reminding the boys they shouldn’t hold onto the back of a Power Wheels car while it’s moving!

I’m in

It’s November, which means that it’s NaBloPoMo, aka National Blog Posting Month. I’m going to give it a shot. I did it last year, but missed one day. I did it in August, and made it the whole month. I think I can do it. But I’m adding another element-I’m going to try to post at least one picture every day as well. It won’t necessarily be a picture I took that day, though. It shouldn’t be hard-I have thousands of pictures I can choose from. I’ll try to stay current!

Here are some pictures from trick-or-treating this year. We double-dipped-last Sunday in our neighborhood (freezing!!!) and Halloween night in my parents’ neighborhood (much nicer weather!).

Oct. 26-Our buddies, Kylie (Snow White) and Andy (Tigger) surprised us in our neighborhood, so we had a good time running around with them. We also ran into more buddies, Maddie (Ladybug) and Katie (Bumblebee).

Oct. 31-There are a ton of kids on my parents’ court now, including friends, Hannah and Katie, who used to live in our neighborhood (no coincidence-my mom told my friend about the house they bought!). We started as a large mob, then, as the bigger kids ran ahead (including Noah), the younger kids got left behind (including Caden). We mostly regrouped, but went a loooooonnnnnngggggg way through the neighborhood before getting back to my parents’ house. It was a great night, though. One of the warmest Halloween nights in recent memory.
