Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 5

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

Initial weight: 124.0
Last week: 123.0
This week: 123.2
Change: +0.2

I think it has something to do with the numerous Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, mini Krackle bars, fancy-flavored Twizzlers, and peanut M&M’s that I ate yesterday at work as we tried to keep our morale up on our first day of computerized documentation at the hospital.

Today isn’t going to be much better: a hot dog and beer at the Brewer game, other treats at the game, chimichangas for dinner, followed by spice cake with penuche frosting for my Dad’s 65th birthday! But we have to celebrate! Happy birthday, Daddy! I love you!!!

On a better workout note, I’m still Shredding (I’ve missed a few days), and I’m really liking Level 3. It’s kicking my butt, but it feels good! But you know what didn’t feel good yesterday? My obliques from the side plank raises! I don’t think I’ve ever felt pain there before! It’s awesome!!!

Random thoughts

So I’m laying here on the sofa, just thinking about some things. Here they are:

Dancing with the Stars
*My boys like to watch this with me. I’m often jealous of (almost) every single friend of mine because they have at least one girl. But when my boys get excited about watching “American Idol” or “Dancing with the Stars”, I realize they can enjoy some of the same things as me that aren’t sports-related. (I also wasn’t too jealous of my friends with girls when I walked into Justice to buy a birthday present for my goddaughter. It looked like a gumball machine had exploded everywhere, and I think “High School Musical” was playing over the speakers, and I was in total sensory overload!)
*Back to DWTS-I can’t believe I’m totally into it! I was really freaking out tonight thinking Melissa was going to be eliminated. I voted for her 5 times last night, so I did my part! Okay, I’m pathetic.

Shredding
*I did my second day of Level 3 today, and I have sore muscles in places I didn’t realize I had muscles (and I’m a PT, so I know about muscles!). My sides are super sore after side plank raises. But I like this level. I like the challenge. Not too much longer to go!

Swine flu
*This morning I heard there were two suspected cases at our hospital. I left the hospital today to find one of our local news trucks parked in the parking lot out front. I haven’t heard any more about it, but I’m hoping the news truck was there just to report on the suspected cases. I admit, I was a little nervous working with one of my patients who had been running a temp and wasn’t feeling all that well. There’s plenty of that anti-viral stuff, right?

Papers
*As I lay here on the sofa, I’m surrounded by papers: old magazines, articles I’ve pulled out of magazines, newspaper articles, mail, AT&T U-verse information (should we switch? I don’t know!), and my “Angels & Demons” book that I’m trying to finish quickly so my parents can read it before the movie comes out. I tend to save a lot of stuff that I think I’ll look at again, and then I never do. I’m a pack rat, what can I say.

Soccer
*Last week we got a call saying a spot had opened up in “Little Kickers” for Caden because a little girl broke her leg. Sorry for the little girl, but I was excited Caden would be able to play soccer for a few weeks. The first class was last Thursday, which turned out to be a rainy, fairly cold day around here. But there is no mercy for 3-4 year olds who are trying to learn how to play soccer! They played in a nice drizzle, with gusts of pretty cold air. Caden lasted about 38 minutes (of 45) then ran over to me, complained of being cold, then continued to cry as I tried to get him to finish out the class. I may be the worst mother in the world, but he’s got to learn! Soccer in Wisconsin can be pretty darn cold and wet at times. Get used to it!

Swimming
*I finally got the boys signed up for swimming lessons. Their first one was last night. It was really fun to watch them. The parents sit on the other side of a window from the kids. Caden and Noah are in different classes, and I think that’s good for them. Caden’s class only had one other boy in it, while Noah’s had two other boys in it. Caden didn’t want to wear the goggles and also wouldn’t put his face in the water. I’ll work on getting him some goggles that work. Noah loved the goggles (they were green-his current favorite color) and was underwater within the first minute of being there. At the end of class, they each got to go down the water slide. There’s hope for a trip to the waterpark soon! I’ll try to get some pictures one of these times.

Random pics
*Here are some pictures from the past week or so. The pictures of the boys in shorts was the day after Caden’s frigid soccer practice. Crazy Wisconsin weather!

I Heart Faces: Reflection

I’ve used this picture before for a You Capture assignment, and I love it so much I decided to use it to enter another I Heart Faces photo challenge.

You Capture: Letters

Photobucket

I got too lazy last week and skipped the assignment. The theme was “rustic” and I was having a hard time coming up with possibilities. As we drove to Madison, we passed numerous rustic-looking barns and farmhouses (appropriate for the Dairy State I live in), but it’s hard to take pictures of them when you’re driving and going 78 mph. And then I was too tired that night to blog about it, so I just passed.

But I’m back this week, and I really liked the challenge of “letters.” I had a lot of ideas. But just the other day, I got my true inspiration.

letters1

The top picture is for me, and it’s a submarine. The bottom picture is for Andy, and it’s a UPS truck. He asked us how to spell “you” and then brought these pictures over to us. I love them!

He’s been working very hard on writing and reading lately. Andy and I can’t spell things around him anymore! But it’s a lot of fun. He’s totally ready for kindergarten (even if I’m not!).

Weigh-in Wednesday: Week 4

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

Here we are again. It’s Wednesday, time to fess up. No, it’s really not that big of a deal, but whatever.

Initial weight: 124.0
Last week: 123.0
This week: 123.0

Yup. No change. I’m not terribly upset. I’ve had four really stressful days at work. I don’t normally work four days in a row anymore. My normal work days are Mondays and Tuesdays. Then I work about one weekend a month to fulfill my contracted position. It’s a lot of description to make you all understand, so just trust me on this one. Anyway, I had to work this past weekend, and then Monday and Tuesday. By the fourth day I’m usually running on fumes. This time was no exception.

I worked fairly long days on Saturday and Sunday, which is unusual. The hospital is hopping right now. On Monday, I had a patient scheduled at 8:30 at the outpatient clinic, and at 8:15 I was still standing in line at the Park & Rec office to sign my boys up for some summer activities. That place drives me nuts! The pamphlet clearly says you can drop off your “sealed envelope” at the office. Instead, you stand in line and wait for them to process your registration. I got there just at 8:00, but was about 40th in line. At about 8:10 I realized there was no way I’d get our registration done and still have time to make it to work on time. I called my mom to beg her to come over with the boys on the way to taking Noah to school to finish standing in line for me. She wonderfully came over to relieve me. So I hauled ass to the clinic where my patient was waiting for me, 10 minutes after his appointment was supposed to start. Just me trying to be “Super Mom”! But he was nice about it, and another PT covered for me with my next patient. But it threw me off for the whole day! I stayed at work about 45 minutes later than normal that day, as well.

Yesterday was a totally nuts day. Long story short, we had a ton of patients to see at the hospital, our PT that normally works all day had training in the morning, and the other PT that was asked to cover for her was sent somewhere else in the morning, so another PT and I had to cover the morning schedule which was totally bonkers! The afternoon wasn’t much better. I was at work about 15 minutes longer than scheduled. That doesn’t sound like much, but I haven’t been working many full days at work lately, so I need to readjust. I can’t wait for this paycheck!

So I had a hard time motivating to work out the past 5 or 6 days. I got up early on Saturday to Shred before work, but after falling asleep at 8:30 that night, then sleeping all night, I didn’t have any desire to get up early on Sunday to Shred. So I figured I’d do it later. Not so much. I’m fessing up: I didn’t shred on Sunday. Strike me down! Kick me out of the Sisterhood! No wait, don’t do that! I Shredded Monday and Tuesday mornings. I decided to get on the treadmill this morning because I’m running an 8K on Saturday morning and my running has been taking the back seat to Shredding, and now I’m afraid Shredding is going to get skipped again today. We’ll see.

To fess up about Shredding, I’m not as excited about it as I was when I started. I think it’s hard for me to do the same thing for 30 days in a row. I know I’ve moved onto Level 2, but it’s still a little repetitive. I’ve also started to feel more crappy about my baby pooch lately too. I don’t know. I’m feeling stressed out about stuff coming up so I think that’s part of it. My motivation needs a swift kick in the ass! We’ll see what happens Saturday at my run!

Madison Fun

We had tickets for the Badger Band spring concert last night, so Andy took yesterday and today off of work, and we made a mini-vacation out of it.

We left yesterday around 2:30, drove to the west side of Madison, checked into our hotel, then headed downtown to do some shopping before dinner and the concert. We got Noah a new Badger t-shirt, then met my parents at the Nitty Gritty for dinner. After we had some yummy food, we walked over to the Kohl Center for the concert. It was a great concert, complete with a flying entrance by the conductor, fireworks, an appearance by Bucky Badger, some Fifth Quarter performances, and plenty of entertainment. The boys both fell asleep. We got back to the hotel by 11:15 and were all asleep by 11:30.

This morning, we headed down to the lobby for (complimentary!) breakfast, then to the pool to do some swimming. After getting plenty pruny, we showered, got dressed, checked out, and headed back toward town. The first stop was the Henry Vilas Zoo. I used to run through the zoo when I was living near it about 10-12 years ago. It has really changed. It’s a great zoo! If any of you are ever in or near Madison on a nice sunny day, head over to the zoo. It’s free! But you may need more than just 1 1/2 hours there! Pack a picnic, and spend the day.

After our whirlwind tour of the zoo, we headed downtown again. We parked near the Memorial Union, then walked over to State Street to pick up some lunch. While we were at Einstein’s Bagels, a familiar face showed up-Scanner Dan! I couldn’t believe it! He hasn’t changed at all in the past 10 years! We picked up some apples at the fruit stand in front of the bookstore, then took our food to eat out on the Union Terrace. It was sunny, warm, packed with people, and so perfect. I’ve never seen so many laptops on the Terrace before! We probably should have had some sunscreen on (as you’ll see later), but it was a great way to have some lunch today.

After eating lunch, we treated the boys to Babcock ice cream-Noah had cookie dough, and Caden had chocolate. I had Irish Cream, and Andy had chocolate chip frozen yogurt, and some of Caden’s. It was great seeing my boys eat ice cream! This was the first ice cream cone for each of them! Noah decided it was easier to put his ice cream in a dish, then eat the cone from the bottom! Pretty cute!

After our ice cream, we started home. It was an exhausting couple of days, but totally worth it. Because I took 184(!) pictures, and I feel such a need to shoot in RAW format, and many of my pictures need to be edited, and I’m not so great at Photoshop yet, I’ll post a few choice pictures from our trip, and I’ll work on getting some more up on my Flickr page at some point. I’m just too tired to do more tonight!

Addendum: Okay, I had a little more ambition, and took better pictures, than I thought! But I may still add more later.

Weigh-in Wednesday

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

It’s Wednesday again, and it’s time to fess up.

Initial weight: 124.0
Last week: 123.2
This week: 123.0
Loss this week: -0.2 lbs

It’s not the biggest loss, but it’s just fine for me based on my eating habits this past week. Well, it was Easter, you know. And Easter means candy. I have very poor self-control. We also had lunch over at my in-laws’ house, and they asked that I bring Swedish Coffee Cake.
(Remember this? bunny cake)

So I had a bit of Swedish Coffee Cake on Sunday. Then there were cupcakes, and I’m a sucker for those, so I had a couple. And a couple of dinner rolls.

Monday morning, I had some leftover Swedish Coffee Cake in the morning. That evening, I went with some friends to visit a friend in the hospital while she’s on bedrest. We took her Qdoba. I don’t really want to know how many calories were in my giant vegetarian burrito. But it was really yummy! Oh, and there were cinnamon rolls from Sam’s club there for the eating as well. Yup, I had two.

At work yesterday, I had some delicious German milk chocolate that my manager brought back from her trip. Then, at the clinic, there were two birthday cakes (for one person!) that were too hard to pass up! One was a cinnamon coffee cake type thing, and the other was a lemon poppy seed bundt cake. They were both quite tasty. After work, I picked up the boys and we headed to McDonald’s for dinner before we went to pick my parents up from the airport. I caved and got a Quarter Pounder with no cheese rather than a salad or a chicken sandwich. The boys were supposed to have apples in their Happy Meals but they accidentally gave us fries for both of them. I did ask for the apples, too, so we got both. But there were fries on the tray. I did manage some self-restraint at that point and only ate a few.

But to counteract my yucky eating habits, I’ve been Shredding every day. Yesterday I moved onto Level 2. I like the change, and I really like that workout. It’s a lot more of a workout for my arms, but it’s cool. It’s hard to get myself up every morning to do it. I used to take some mornings off to sleep in a bit. Not so much now. I find it really hard to motivate myself to work out later in the day. Sort of like today. I did get up early this morning to run on the treadmill for a half hour. I figured I’d do my Shred during the boys’ nap time. Well, it’s their nap time, and I’m sitting in our comfy chair, blogging and reading blogs, watching “The Real Housewives of New York” on DVR. I’ll do it later. I must do it later! All of my sisters at the Sisterhood are keeping me honest!

So that’s it for today.

New photo contest

I’ve been spying on another blog called I Heart Faces, and I haven’t entered anything yet. Well, today is the day. They have an “amateur” category this week, so here’s my shot!

This was a difficult decision as to which picture to use, but I love Noah’s eyes in this one!

Easter at our house

We had a nice Easter today. I got up early to Shred, then had to keep the boys from coming downstairs too early! Once we allowed them to come down, they were excited to find their baskets of goodies.

Then they hunted for eggs in our living room. Note to self: it’s best to hide eggs with someone else so that someone else can help you remember where they were all hidden! Yeah, I hid them myself, then forgot I had hidden one by the Wii.

After breakfast, we were off to church, where they had an Easter Egg Hunt before the service. They let the kids hunt in waves. First, kids Caden’s age got to start.

After church we headed to Andy’s parents’ house for a yummy ham lunch. I brought Swedish Coffee Cake which is usually a Christmas tradition but was requested for Easter this year. I made it look like a bunny head (sort of!).

You Capture: Week Seven-Fun

Photobucket

I’m back with my weekly assignment from Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry. The theme was “fun.” We’ve had plenty of fun around here, but I don’t always capture it on camera. Today I was trying to figure out what I could do. My friend, Sandy, came over and we took the kiddos out for a walk. I grabbed some shots of Caden. He finds fun in random places.

He stopped to look at some black spots on the road. I think they’re from something leaking out of someone’s car, but he was fascinated. And I think it’s fun to see him squat down like this. (Maybe I’m jealous he can squat like that. If I did, I’d never get back up!)
caden looking

And then he had fun chasing his shadow, trying to jump on it. (I was carrying his scooter)
shadow jumping

That’ll have to do for this week. I’ll step it up again next week.

Head over to Beth’s blog to see some other entries!
