I really don’t want to blog now. I’m reading “Change of Heart” by Jodi Picoult and I’d much rather put my jammies on, turn on the Olympics, and read. So that’s what I’m going to do.

I really don’t want to blog now. I’m reading “Change of Heart” by Jodi Picoult and I’d much rather put my jammies on, turn on the Olympics, and read. So that’s what I’m going to do. …but I’m really glad it’s not! Andy took the day off yesterday for our golf outing, and today we were at Wirth Park for Andy’s family reunion. We took the boys swimming at the kiddie pool, which is really more than a kiddie pool. It’s a mini water park. They had a blast! It renewed my faith in myself having the ability to take them there alone. They were great. Maybe we can make it there one more time this summer. The reunion came to an abrupt end as everyone cleared out trying to beat the short, but heavy rain storm that came through. We waited out the worst of it, then headed home. Is it time for bed yet? Oh, it’s only 5:10 pm! That’s how I’m feeling right now. We had a long day today. Andy and I golfed in the Majeskie family golf outing (it’s Andy’s family reunion tomorrow), and I’m pooped! It was a very long round, because there was very slow play ahead of us. I played alright, considering this was my third time out golfing this year. I had a couple of rock star shots early in the round. Overall it was fun. Anyway, I thought I’d make this more interesting with some pictures of the boys from a week ago. Enjoy! Also, happy first day of the Olympics, and happy 32 months, Caden!!! Today we had Caden’s annual allergy appointment. For those of you who don’t know, Caden is allergic to peanuts. Not scary allergic, but he broke out in hives around his mouth about a year and a half ago when we fed him a peanut butter sandwich. We had him tested a year ago, and it showed an allergy, so we carry around an EpiPen, and tell everyone who needs to know that he has a peanut allergy. A couple of months ago, my mom accidentally made Caden a peanut butter sandwich instead of his “Sun Nut Butter” sandwich (made from sunflower seeds). He took a bite, then Noah reminded my mom that Caden can’t have peanuts. Caden spit the piece out, but had a bite of sandwich in his mouth for a few seconds. No reaction. I talked to the allergist about this, but he didn’t suggest we start feeding Caden peanuts or anything. Instead he said we could do a blood test, and go from there. Maybe we’ll do a food challenge where they start by putting some peanut stuff (I don’t know what it is) on his cheek, then his lips, then his tongue, etc. So after sitting in the allergy clinic for about 45 minutes (for a 10 minute appointment!), we headed to the lab. The phlebotomist (who couldn’t have been more than 20 years old) was very nice, but I told her I hadn’t warned Caden about what was about to happen. I started to explain that he would have to have a little shot, but he could be really brave. She put the touniquet around his left arm and tried to find a vein. No luck. So she would have to use his right arm. No big deal, except that’s the thumb he likes to suck when he’s holding his “big blue blankie” which I was smart enough to bring with us. So he started to suck on his left thumb-quite resourceful! She cleaned his arm with the alcohol wipe, then asked me to hold his left arm. Initially, I didn’t hold it close enough because he tried to push her away once she stuck him. But he didn’t cry! He said “OUCH!” and got a little upset, but I distracted him with a fish mobile hanging from the ceiling, and next thing we knew, she was done, and he had a band-aid on his arm. WHAT A TROOPER! He picked out his prize of a box of crayons, and we were on our way. He was so brave! BTW, when we met up with my parents and Noah for dinner afterward, Noah bumped his ear on the door of the car and had a total crying fit. I don’t even think there’s a mark! If Noah had to have blood drawn, it would have been a huge issue! The differences between the boys are amazing! Caden loves music. He’s always humming when he’s sucking his thumb while holding his “big blue blankie.” He sings a lot. He dances quite a bit more that Noah ever did. He’ll bust out with his air guitar for absolutely no reason. (His air guitar is actually pretty hilarious. I’ll have to get it on video and post it sometime.) Last night, Andy’s family was over to celebrate Andy’s brother’s birthday. We asked Caden to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” I’m so glad I got it on video. Enjoy! I love his “Buy some me peanuts and Cracker Jack”! Andy is over at my parents’ house right now, helping my dad move their flat screen TV from their bedroom back down to their family room. It had been replaced by a slightly bigger TV about a year ago. That new TV was quite nice, and worked great, until today. My mom called me around midday, left me a message that said, “Call me sometime today when you get a chance and ask me about the really stupid thing I did.” I was quite intrigued. When I called her back, she started telling me about her morning. She was bowling on her Wii…enough said. If you remember when the Wii was still pretty new, there were stories about people throwing the remotes through their TV screens because they slipped out of their hands as they were bowling or playing tennis. Yep, you guessed it. My mom put her remote through their TV. Okay, not exactly through, but it apparently put a hole and a large crack through the screen. She usually wears the wrist strap, but had been multi-tasking, as we are wont to do, so she wanted to bowl one more frame. Whoops. My parents are now researching new flat screen TVs. I think my dad took it pretty well. Actually, he’s kind of excited because there’s new technology out their since they bought their TV a year ago. I can only imagine what Andy would do/say if I did the same thing around here. Oh wait, I don’t have a Wii! Andy and I just got back from seeing “The Dark Knight.” I don’t know if I’m getting more sensitive as I get older, or the movies are getting more violent more intense, but I had a really hard time sitting through that whole movie! I was very much interested in going down the hall to find “Mamma Mia!” (which is very entertaining, and bright!). There were a few parts that kept me entertained: 1. The Batmobile-definitely the coolest one yet! 2. The Bat-cycle-also quite cool. 3. Christian Bale in a suit (actually with or without any other type of clothing-very hot!)-I’ve loved him since his “Newsies” days! 4. An amazing performance by Heath Ledger-now I understand what everyone means when they say how his death is a more profound loss after seeing this movie. He’s incredible! Otherwise, I wasn’t terribly impressed. But maybe seeing this movie will give me more credit toward a more “girly” movie the next time Andy and I head to the movie theater! Today we headed to the Wisconsin State Fair. It’s a bit of a sensory overload: food vendors, midway (aka carnival) rides, annoying carnies offering to guess your weight (there’s NO way I’m getting on a giant scale in the middle of the fairgrounds!), and tons of people. And it was pretty hot. But there’s plenty of fun stuff to look at, as well. Here’s a few of the things we did and saw: After gorging ourselves on Saz’s (sour cream and chive fries-YUM!!!), lemonade, popcorn, and a giant cream puff (for me-I actually just want the cream, no puff), we headed home. The boys are passed out on their beds, and I’m not far behind! This morning, we headed out to Oconomowoc Lake to spend a few hours at our friend, Becky’s parents’ house. Another friend of ours, Doug, is house/dog-sitting while Becky’s parents are in Tahoe for Becky’s brother’s wedding. We swam for a bit, and Noah is getting quite brave in the water. Caden, not so much. But we’ll practice more. We took a pontoon boat ride around the lake. There are some amazing houses out there. Something to wish for. It was a beautiful day out there. It’s around 80 degrees today, sunny, with a nice breeze, so it was very comfortable in the boat. Often when we’re there, it’s really hot, humid, with no wind at all so you just bake in the boat. Today was a nice treat. On the way home, I decided it was time to get off my lazy ass and go for a run, something I haven’t done in a few weeks. Maybe not that long, but I can’t remember when I last did, so it feels that long! It went okay. I’m totally addicted to the “Mamma Mia!” soundtrack, and it kept me surprisingly motivated. I’ve had the same workout playlist on my iPod for a while, so I know where in my run a certain song plays. It can make my run feel very long. Today, I was slightly surprised when I was on my last run/walk circuit (run 5 minutes, walk 1 minute-thanks Catheroo!). I think it’s time to change up my workout playlist. Anyway, I’m pretty sweaty right now. But I’m feeling good about myself. Now if I can just get back into a routine! So the theme this month for NaBloPoMo is “Hot.” Considering I’m finally cooling down from the morning at the zoo, and some time in the crawl space above the garage, filling our little pool, and trying to figure out how to set up a sprinkler, I think I could come up with some stuff to write. So I’ll give it a shot. I’m going to try to write every day about something related to the word “hot.” We’ll see how it goes… |
