Andy and I just got back from seeing “Funny People“. It was hilarious! I don’t often laugh out loud at movies, but this one had me laughing a LOT! I’ve always liked Adam Sandler, and Seth Rogen is a new favorite of mine. If you can get past the crude language (there’s a lot in this movie) you’ll really enjoy it.
We saw a preview for “Inglorious Basterds“, which I definitely don’t want to see. I’m really not a Tarentino fan. But for you Tarentino fans out there, I’m sure you’ll love it, based on the preview we saw.
Another movie we saw a preview for was “Taking Woodstock“. It’s an Ang Lee film (“Brokeback Mountain”-great movie!), and it looks cool. It’s based on true events. Could be a fun one.
Finally, we saw a preview for “Couples Retreat” with Vince Vaughn (a favorite of mine), Jon Favreau, and Jason Bateman, who is truly hilarious. It looks like another good one for us. Andy and I were laughing just at the preview. Hopefully they didn’t show all of the funny parts in that two minute trailer!
Anyway, that’s about it. I haven’t done anything with my camera for a few days. Unfortunately, I didn’t take it out to the lake house yesterday. There was a gorgeous sunset, and the silhouettes it created were amazing. I started doing the daily photo thing to keep me motivated and to make me think creatively, but I’m not feeling too creative. I’ll see what I can do.
I’ll leave you with a picture from this date a year ago. I was in California with my parents celebrating my sister-in-law‘s 40th birthday. It was a great party. But these are pictures of their sweet kitty, Desmond. Daphne is a bit more camera shy.

Yup, that’s me. Not that today was so taxing on me. On the contrary. It was quite nice.
I went shopping a bit in the morning, came home for some lunch, took a little snooze on the sofa, baked some break-apart cookies, then headed out with the family to my friend’s parents’ lake home. Despite it only being about 68 degrees outside, we had a really nice time. We drank vodka lemonades (probably why I’m a little sleep now!), played some euchre (a fantastic card game that Andy and I love but don’t get to play terribly often because the boys haven’t learned yet!), and ate some great food. Juicy burgers, delicious pasta salad, sweet watermelon, those cookies I made, and a couple of s’mores, and I’m stuffed! So I’m off to bed.
Good night!
The boys had their 6-month dentist check-up today, and everything went just fine. Except for the fact that Noah needs to have a filling. Crap! Apparently his six-year molars have an enamel “defect” that will need sealants, but one of them needs to be “smoothed out”. This was all according to “Dr. Angie” who looks to be about 15 years old! Whatever, my poor baby has to have his first filling at the tender age of 5 1/2!
We’ll go in next Wednesday morning, they’ll give him some nitrous oxide (can’t wait to see how that affects him!), then they’ll numb it up a bit, then drill away. I’m not so sure how this is going to go. I also don’t know when to tell Noah about it. Maybe that morning?

(It’s the back tooth. And check out the crooked teeth coming in on the bottom!)

I actually thought ahead a bit on this week’s challenge. We were at the zoo on Saturday for Andy’s birthday, and as we were walking around, I noticed some things that made me feel peaceful (despite my crazy boys running around and the commotion over by the prairie dog lair that was swarming with peacocks).
A gorgeous willow tree, it’s long, flowing branches swaying in the breeze. (I grew up with a willow tree in my yard, and loved swinging on the branches. My dad, however, really hated the branches when they ended up all over the lawn after a big storm!)

Two beautiful swans, lazily swimming around the man-made “lake” in the middle of the zoo.

Sunlight, filtering through the clouds.

See other peaceful captures over at Beth’s blog!
The boys’ eyes, that is. And “it” is conjunctivitis, otherwise known as pink eye.

It’s in Noah’s left eye, and Caden’s right eye. (It’s hard to see Caden’s because he was smiling, and it’s not as severe as Noah’s.) So we made our pilgrimage to the doctor (who I love, and who, thankfully, we don’t see terribly often because my boys are pretty healthy), and came home with two bottles of eye drops (one for each because it’s not a great idea to share them in case of any cross-contamination). The boys get two drops in their affected eyes three times a day. Great. And we’re supposed to watch my girlfriend’s daughters tomorrow. Not the best idea. We’ll see how it goes.
We’ve lived in our house for a little over 4 years, and we really haven’t gotten to know our neighbors very well. We know our neighbors on either side of us, and we know two of the neighbors across the street. I actually work with a different neighbor across the street. But we live on a quiet street, and we don’t really know anyone else. We say hi to them as they walk past if we’re out playing in the front yard. Sometimes, I have to remind the boys to not talk to everyone that goes past unless a grown-up is there to say it’s okay.
Tonight, the boys were cruising around on their scooters in the driveway, Andy was mowing the lawn, and I was reading my book (Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner-read it). A neighbor from way down at the end of our street was passing by as he walked his sweet little dog. I see him out walking with his wife and the dog at times, or just his wife with the dog. They’re a very nice couple.
In fact, they’re so nice, the man carries Dum-Dum suckers and dog treats in his pocket to hand out to kids or dogs, respectively.

Lucky kids! (and dogs!)

After Andy was done mowing the lawn, he used the trimmer to edge along the driveway. Then he took out the big broom to sweep the grass clippings back into the yard. Caden decided to help-by blowing on the clippings.

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes. All is a miracle.â€

I’m exhausted right now, so this is a quick one. I worked today, then cleaned the house (a little bit!) to be ready for having our families over for dinner to celebrate Andy’s birthday. I’m falling into a food coma now, fueled by grilled marinated chicken, corn on the cob, Sun Chips, fresh fruit, Mikes Hard Pink Lemonade, and homemade ice cream cake. DELISH!
So I leave you with a picture of some purple coneflowers in my backyard garden. I don’t do much to that garden. The previous owners did a nice job with landscaping back there. I don’t really like coneflowers-I think they look kind of droopy and sad-but I thought these looked nice.

Today is Andy’s birthday. It’s been a pretty typical day around here, but he got to golf yesterday and he’s golfing tomorrow, so it makes for a decent weekend. We had a lazy morning, I made ham and cheese eggs for breakfast, Andy grouted the bathroom floor (pictures tomorrow, probably!), and then we headed to the zoo for a short visit and some ice cream before picking up Qdoba for dinner.

Love you, babe!

Ciao Bella Blood Orange Sorbet. So refreshing. I highly recommend it. ‘Nuf said.
