Second day of school, first day riding the bus to school.
(Notice the blur to the second shot here-he couldn’t get up those stairs fast enough!)

No tears from me, either! We’re both growing!

We made it! Noah had his first full day of kindergarten today. And he was a total rock star! I was a wreck (thank goodness big sunglasses are in style and it was sunny today!), but he was a champ! I’m really proud of him. We made sure we were up and ready early enough to have been ready to take the bus. We saw it stop at the corner, right on time. But today Andy and I took him to school for “Tears and Cheers.” All of the kindergarten parents are encouraged to bring their kids to school, hang out on the playground, then give one last wave, blow one last kiss, and watch the kids go into the school. It was cute to watch the kids, all loaded down with giant backpacks (I remember when I was that age I had to use a school bag, not a backpack, and I was really bummed! But it was a cute school bag! I should get that picture of me from my first day of kindergarten from my mom. I was pretty cute!), lining up and walking into the school. Very grown-up! I then rushed off to work-a very helpful distraction today! But I kept looking at the clock, waiting for 3:00 when I was done to get home in time to meet the bus. The bus was supposed to drop Noah off at 4:01, but didn’t get to the stop until about 4:10. (We took some silly pictures while we were waiting!) I was really excited to see him! He was all smiles when he got off the bus. He had a great first day. We celebrated with dinner at TGI Friday’s with Nana, Boppa, Grandma, Grandpa, Chuck and Sara, and Lizzy and Dan. It was a great day! One down, 179 to go! Noah starts kindergarten tomorrow. My heart is aching. It’s the end of an era! I can’t believe he’s old enough to go to kindergarten! But he’s totally ready. Completely ready. I’m not. Today the boys got to play at three different parks with Grandma, then this afternoon we had some time to play outside before our dinner of burgers, corn on the cob, and pickles! The boys started playing with a balloon and the bicycle pump. (Note the blue light saber-Caden is rarely without that thing these days!) Then Andy pulled out his hockey stick and a tennis ball. Bring on the driveway hockey! After dinner, we went for a walk, then came back home to give the boys baths, then books before bed. Andy read an extremely appropriate book tonight. We’ll see what tomorrow brings! I just got back from seeing “(500) Days of Summer” with some girlfriends and learned a few things: 1. I’m really glad Andy and I didn’t go see it last weekend-not really his type of movie. 2. I’m glad to not be dating anymore. 3. I really like Zooey Deschanel. 4. I know Joseph Gordon-Levitt from something (just checked IMDB-3rd Rock from the Sun, Angels in the Outfield). 5. If you don’t like the movie, or you don’t really care about it, leave the theater. Don’t sit and giggle and gossip about other things. Leave. Don’t ruin the movie for others. Leave. Don’t distract others from a fairly pivotal point of the movie. LEAVE. It was an enjoyable movie. Charming, as my girlfriend put it. And the glass of wine and company after the movie was extremely enjoyable. I was just looking through some of my old pictures, and found this one. It’s a nice picture to look at because it reminds me that normally on August 29, we could be enjoying some warm, sunny weather. Unfortunately, this August 29 brought us 64 degrees for a high, and an overcast sky with some light mist this evening. So I’m going to remember this gorgeous sunflower from last year (our sunflower this year didn’t make it), and hope that next August 29 will be a more typical summer day. When I saw the challenge for this week over at I Should Be Folding Laundry was “food”, I thought about this post. Then I thought it would be cheating. So I thought about it a little bit, and decided on…blueberries. I have been eating blueberries this summer like they’re going out of style. I’ve been going through a pint about every three days. I primarily like to put them in my yogurt. But I’ll eat them straight. When I was pregnant with Noah (six years ago!), I ate blueberries mixed in with a cut up nectarine almost every day at work. I love to make Blueberry Boy Bait-named that way by my mother and father because her mom used to make it when they were dating, and my dad claims that’s why he married my mom! It’s a delicious, moist dense coffee cake covered in blueberries. I haven’t gotten too creative with blueberries in terms of other dishes, but I suppose I should check some out. Any suggestions? Think of all of the antioxidants I’m getting! I’m surprised I haven’t turned into Violet Beauregarde! Look at these gorgeous berries! Oooooh, my mouth is watering right now! Go get hungry checking out other food posts! This morning, Noah was ultra-brave at the dentist as he got his first filling. He got to breath “happy air” which smelled like chocolate-his choice. I didn’t get to see him while under the influence of his “happy air”, but I didn’t hear anything and he was smiling when the dental assistant called us back (Andy came for moral support-for Noah or me, I’m not so sure!). He had no complaints, did not complain of any pain, but wondered if his mouth and tongue would feel funny “forever”. How cute! I told him it would be better by lunch time. It didn’t slow him down from enjoying some banana chocolate chip coffee cake from Starbucks! We had dropped Caden off at Hillside with Andy’s mom, where she is trying to get the library ready for school to start next week. So we went back and met Caden and Grandma on the playground. It was a gorgeous sunny day, with a lovely breeze, so we had a good time there for a while. Caden was playing on a part of the new climbing structure while I was the quicksand monster. And he climbed on the net part of the climbing structure, pretending to be Spider-Man. The boys met a little boy there who found a toad. Kind of gross, but also sort of cute! Caden wasn’t a big fan, but Noah was brave enough to hold it. Tonight we’ll be off to Noah’s new school for an Open House. We’re looking forward to meeting his new teacher, checking out his classroom, and maybe meeting some of his new classmates. Six more days! Sniff, sniff! Today is my 300th post! Yea me! Anyway, today is a little more special than that. Today is my dear SIL’s birthday! Catheroo loves her birthday, as you can read here. And she deserves every second of fun and happiness on her big day! About a year ago, my parents and I were able to be there to celebrate her big 4-0. She totally doesn’t look like she’s that age, and she definitely doesn’t act that way! She’s a bootcamping maniac, amazing photographer, contagious laugher, fiercely loyal friend, talented writer, and a loving wife, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law. I feel so privileged to have her in my life. Happy birthday, Cath! Love you! (You earned this blog post by being one of my 7 loyal readers! Can’t wait for Vegas!!!) Andy and I convinced the boys to head out for a walk around the neighborhood tonight, and we really walked. I couldn’t believe the boys made it the whole way! The weather was perfect, and the sky was full of airplanes and jet trails, while also showcasing a warm sunset. There were also some great gardens to see, including my own rose bush! I’m hoping we have more evenings like this before fall really sets in! |
