I had taken a different shot early today, so proud of myself for getting a head start on this daily task. I guess I’ll save it for tomorrow, though that might be cheating a bit. Oh well.
So we did some writing today, in preparation for Noah’s upcoming 6th birthday. (Where does the time go???) I’m noticing a bit of a theme to his requests.

I think he likes Star Wars and Legos just a little bit.
It’s time for 7 Days again. Thank goodness Catheroo reminded me this time! I missed the summer session.
I really need the motivation to get some pictures posted. I just haven’t been that motivated to blog lately. I think it may be the change in weather. I’m also getting anxious about our mini-vacay next weekend, making sure the boys are packed and settled. Whatever the case, I’m happy for 7 Days.
I worked another long day today at work, so this is how we spent our evening after the kiddos went to bed. Andy’s sister and her boyfriend were hanging out with us and it was a nice, low-key way to end the day.

I’ll be back with more later!

The timing of this challenge was perfect! We headed out to The Elegant Farmer (home of the famous Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag) on Sunday to do some apple picking and pumpkin selecting. It was a gorgeous day to start, but then the wind picked up and we got rained on a bit. We didn’t let that dampen our spirits!
Wandering around the apple orchard, watching the boys climb trees, filling our basket with apples-that’s what fall feels like!

It’s a lot of pictures, but we had such a great time, I needed to show it all off!
Go see what others think fall feels like at Beth’s!
The other day, Andy was able to get discounted tickets to the Brewer game. Since the season is rapidly coming to a close, we decided to take the boys one last time for the 2009 season. And the seats were in “Awesomeville” as Andy put it, so we really had a great time. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Normally, I’m a pretty happy person. I’m an optimist, I try to see the good in everyone, and I smile a lot. This week has been a tough week for me.
-I worked most of the day on Saturday, missing Noah’s soccer game, during which he scored a couple of goals.
-Monday afternoon, I scraped the side of a parked car while pulling into a parking spot at the grocery store. It’s been a lot of dealing with the insurance company since then. Thank goodness my cousin is my insurance agent and it’s easy to get things handled.
-Tuesday, I worked 11 hours. It was a crazy day at the hospital. I’m thinking it must have been an auspicious couple of days for surgery since 7 people decided to have joint replacements on Monday and 9 people decided to do it on Tuesday.
-Yesterday, I found out my friend down the street has an offer on their house which they’ve been trying to sell for a few months. That bums me out.
So it was a little difficult to work on the happiness theme for me. There is plenty of happiness in my world, it’s just been hard for me to see it lately. But this morning, I discovered some little bits of happiness.
Happiness is having two boys who are capable of getting themselves dressed in the morning.

Granted, their clothing choices may be questionable, but they do it themselves! (Caden wore that same outfit yesterday.)
Happiness is the pretty purple flower in my front garden that is holding on, despite fall being upon us.

Happiness is the multi-colored tree in my front yard, that seems to get prettier and prettier every day (but I’m having a hard time capturing it’s true beauty).

Happiness is a great fall day, playing out in the yard, driving the convertible.

And happiness is having these two boys in my life.

Kinda makes the bad stuff better, huh?
Head over to Beth’s to see more happiness.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this week’s challenge. Beth is apparently feeling we are ready to get tough! I dream of having a macro lens and capturing amazing shots of inner workings of all things. I would love to be able to get shots of drops of water like this (another amazing shot by Keli of Kidnapped by Suburbia). But alas, no macro lens for me now. So I pulled out my trusty old 18-55 mm lens that came with my camera (I’m actually not a huge fan of that lens) to see if it would help get some up-close shots. Here’s what I’ve got for this week.
The mums sitting on my front step. Yep, it’s mum season.

I loved how the colors are changing on this leaf.

I really like the different colored leaves on the one branch.

A shot of an “Irish Eyes Gloriosa Daisy”. I love the green eyes!

Not necessarily as “macro” as I’d like them to be, but nice and close anyway.
Let’s see what other people did at Beth’s.
Today, there was an envelope in the mail that said “Payment enclosed” on the front. I don’t know of any payment that is to be coming my way. I opened it, and found a check for $50 made out to me, and in the memo line it said “Signspotting submission”.
So a few months ago (I don’t remember when), I submitted a photo to “Signspotting”. Every week in the Travel section of our local Sunday paper, a guy named Doug Lansky puts in a picture of a funny or crazy sign. It says you can get $50 for any pictures he uses. Apparently, he liked mine! I didn’t see it in our local paper, but I’m guessing it’s on the webpage somewhere. I haven’t found it yet-you have to rate a picture to see the next one. And I’m not sure what category it was put in. But it must be there somewhere-I’ve got the check to prove it!
So I’m published-again! Here’s the picture I sent:

It was taken at a nearby park after we had some serious flooding in our area because of several days of torrential downpours last summer. Not bad, huh?
Today was Caden’s big day. He had his first day at his “new school.” His “new school” is Noah’s “old school” and Caden is extremely familiar with the building, the routine, and the teachers there. So his first day went swimmingly. He had a great time, but also told me he missed me! I missed him too, but I really enjoyed my coffee date with my girlfriend, Steph, whose youngest daughter is in Caden’s class, and whose oldest daughter is in Noah’s class. They’re all very good buddies. Here are pictures from his big day.

And here’s how we started the morning:

Watching Dora in his new Obi Wan Kenobi costume that he’ll wear for Halloween.
We’ll celebrate tonight with some mini-golf, then some pizza at home while we watch “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”-no doubt while wearing the Obi Wan Kenobi costume!
Happy first day of preschool, Caden!

I was really tempted to skip this week (again!) because Beth gave us a really difficult challenge! We were to take a picture of something we’ve never done before. It sounds simple, but it means stepping outside of our comfort zone of picture taking. I mostly take pictures of my boys, or stuff around my house or neighborhood. So I was stumped.
I liked Keli’s (over at Kidnapped by Suburbia) take on the challenge and even though she takes millions of (AMAZING) pictures of her daughter, she took pictures of her daughter doing something new, or just a different take on another subject. Very creative, Keli!
Anyway, here’s what I’ve got for this week.
At the zoo yesterday (where I’ve taken thousands of pictures, often of the same things), we saw the moose standing in the middle of his little lake drinking water. I’d never seen him doing that before!

Today, I took my camera with me as Caden and I headed out for an errand before gymnastics. I noticed the weeds growing next to the curb at the intersection, and wondered how they get there, how they manage to grow and thrive there, and realized I’ve never taken a picture of those before.

And finally, on our way home, we drove past this corn field that we drive by all the time. We’ve been loving the corn on the cob lately (not from this field), and I thought this would make a nice shot.

Check out some other new shots over at Beth’s.
Next week: Macro. YIKES!!!

I had a lot of ideas for this challenge this week. My parents have an old sign with my mom’s maiden name in Swedish that would have been perfect. I’m sure there was some way to twist the meaning of “old signs” to make it more creative. I would have loved to go on a photowalk to find some old signs. But with Noah’s first day of school, I’ve had a one-track mind! So on our way home from soccer this afternoon, I came up with this sign:

This sign has been up for pretty much the whole time we’ve lived in our current house, which is pushing 4 1/2 years. The sign originally had prices set in the 90’s. We’ve watched them slowly drop. Houses are being built. But not terribly quickly. It may have something to do with the economy. Or it may have something to do with the train tracks that run about 30 feet away from where this sign is. The train tracks that are quite busy on a daily (and nightly) basis. It’s just a theory I have.
I wonder what “old signs” some of the other bloggers out there found? Check it out.
